Exemestane is a steroidal aromatase inhibitor that irreversibly binds to and inactivates aromatase, reducing the body’s conversion of androgens into estrogen.
It is used primarily in the hormonal management of estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer, particularly in postmenopausal patients. Exemestane differs from non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors such as letrozole and anastrozole because of its steroidal structure and mechanism.
Lower estrogen exposure may contribute to hot flashes, joint symptoms, fatigue, and reduced bone mineral density. The supplied tablet strength is 25mg.
