Liothyronine is synthetic triiodothyronine (T3), one of the principal thyroid hormones responsible for regulating metabolic activity throughout the body.
Unlike levothyroxine, which supplies synthetic T4, liothyronine directly provides T3. It has recognized use in selected thyroid disorders, although treatment decisions depend on the underlying diagnosis and individual clinical circumstances.
Because T3 has a relatively rapid physiological effect, excessive exposure may produce palpitations, tremor, sweating, nervousness, insomnia, and cardiovascular complications. The supplied product specifies 50mcg tablets.
